• Its all about the nail...

The nail plate is made up of approximately 25 layers of dead keratinized cells, which are tightly bound together. These cells provide the strength to the nail, whilst oils and moisture within the nail plate keep them flexible.

Many factors can cause changes in the nail plate, resulting in less strength and flexibility. Water will adsorb in to the nail causing the cells to shift and change shape, repeated exposure to water can result in dry, split, peeling or brittle nails.

Solvents also have a drying effect, although temporary prolonged exposure can also result in dry, split, peeling or brittle nails. Remember most of what we see and touch can be a chemical

These effects can seem even more evident during the winter months due to exposure to cold or dry air from the central heating. Nails start to delaminate (peel) due to decrease moisture content.

Regular use of solar oil can replace lost oils and maintain a healthy strong, flexible nail. Please refer to my previous blog regarding the benefits of solar oil. As well as regular Hydrating manicures.

The Bristol Beauty Vine is offering a Hydrating Manicure this winter, including paraffin treatment for only £22.00. Why not add on a service, Polish add £3.00 or Shellac add £5.00

  • Shellac

Ever since Shellac hit the professional market, clients everywhere started trying it out as the demand for Nail Enhancements has been on the decline. Shellac is now fast becoming the preferred choice over ‘false nails’.

Shellac is usually applied to natural nails and offers a tough wearing, beautiful finish that can be artfully applied in various designs. Please refer to my facebook pages for pictures.

The best thing about Shellac is it’s durability and speed of application. It’s designed to last for two weeks but it’s quite common for it to last longer (dependent on nail condition before the start of the treatment). Of course if you have it on for longer than two weeks you will probably have noticeable growth. A Shellac Pedicure will last considerably longer and as there is no dry time you don’t have to worry about smudging it on the way home.

Shellac is also a safer product for Nail Technicians and clients due to the absence of harmful vapors produced by chemicals such as formaldehyde and toluene; both of which are present in many other nail coatings.

Shellac can be applied in approx 45 minutes and requires no ‘roughening’ or filing of the nail plate unlike other nail products. Best of all the zero dry time allows you to go rooting around in your handbag for keys and purse immediately afterwards, without fear of smudging, chipping or scratching!

Most important of all is that you don’t have the issues that can occur with Nail Enhancements, as there is no damage to the natural nail and there’s no chance of lifting that can sometimes cause bacteria and fungus under Nail enhancements.

Shellac is also quickly and easily removed in a salon using the procedures recommended by CND (Creative Nail Design). Remember, Shellac is a professional product which should be applied and removed by a professional Nail Technician.

The Bristol Beauty Vine is proud to be able to offer CND Shellac at a very reasonable price:

    Shellac Manicure from £18.00

    Shellac Pedicure from £20.00

Please refer to my previous blog regarding Solar oil as with all long lasting polishes and Enhancements Solar oil should be used daily to rehydrate the nail. Solar oil is specifically formulated to penetrate through shellac to ensure healthy hydrated nails and Shellac is kept flexible.

As Shellac grows in popularity unfortunately fake’s have hit the market, as above there should be no filing of the natural nail and Shellac does not need to be buffed off! And if it has Bluesky on it then its fake!

  • Why should I use SolarOil daily?

SolarOil, known as the miracle in a bottle is a natural skin and nail conditioning treatment. SolarOil is a blend of naturally light oils and Vitamin E, designed to deeply penetrate and protect skin and nails.

    : Jojoba Oil for penetration

: Rice Bran Oil for conditioning

: Sweet Almond Oil for softening

    ; Vitamin E for anti-aging

Together these ingredients work to deeply moisturize the skin and plasticize the nails. Repeated use drives oils deeper into natural nails and nail enhancements, maximizing the benefits and reducing service breakdown.

Try using SolarOil every night before bed. It will penetrate deeply as you sleep and use regularly (daily) for its cumulative benefits.

This combination is important because as the natural nail grows, new nail plate leaves the matrix area and becomes exposed to “the elements” that are a part of normal everyday activity. The nail plate is dead keratinous material and is porous and vulnerable to drying out. As it dries, it becomes more prone to cracking and brittleness. To maintain flexibility the nails must be treated daily, daily moisture treatments keep everything flexible, resilient, and resistant to peeling/brittle nails.

The Bristol Beauty Vine retails Solar Oil Pinkies for only £3.00 (rrp £3.95)
